On 21 October 2026, two days after MiniMax-M3.1-Flash went generally available, MiniMax's account on X named Inferact an API launch partner for the model, crediting its vLLM expertise and describing the collaboration as building "the serving infrastructure for complex agent workloads." That is the entire public announcement: one post, no blog entry, no technical detail. It is worth taking seriously anyway, because it is the first thing anyone has said publicly about how this model is actually going to be served — and for a model whose headline claim is a threefold speed-up, the serving layer is not a footnote. It is the claim. The documented AI failures and agent incidents behind releases like this one are collected in the OrcaRouter AI Incident Archive where each entry carries its own sources, severity, confidence grade and disputed flag.

MiniMax published a proper launch post for MiniMax-M3.1-Flash on 19 October 2026: agentic benchmarks, a 70% cost reduction, inference "nearly three times faster." It is a substantial piece of work, and it does not contain the word Inferact. It does not contain the word vLLM either. Whatever the partnership amounts to, the company did not consider it part of the launch story on the day the launch story was told.

That gap is the most informative thing in the announcement. A launch partner named two days late, in a social post, with no accompanying technical write-up, is a partner whose work is still in progress. If MiniMax had M3.1-Flash running on a tuned third-party stack at general availability, the launch post would have said so — day-zero serving on a named engine is exactly the kind of proof point a vendor puts in the body copy. Instead the claim arrives separately, without numbers, which tells you the collaboration is being announced at the point where it becomes a commitment rather than at the point where it becomes a result.

There is a second, smaller gap. Inferact's own site, checked on 22 October, carries a MiniMax logo among its partners and a testimonial attributed to Dr. Yan Junjie, MiniMax's founder and CEO. It also does not mention MiniMax-M3.1-Flash anywhere. Its case studies are about other models entirely. So the two companies have announced a partnership that neither company's marketing site yet describes in product terms. Read that as evidence of recency rather than of doubt: the X post is two days old, and partner pages are slow.

The company sells two shapes of the same thing. Inferact Platform installs in a customer's own cloud or data centre — the site's phrasing is "Run inference on your compute" — with a control plane covering monitoring, rollout validation, cost tracking, autoscaling, endpoint management, metering and observability. Inferact Cloud is the same platform on GPUs Inferact provisions: "Run inference on our compute." The distinction matters for anyone reading the MiniMax announcement as an availability statement. An API launch partner on that model can mean managed endpoints someone else operates, or it can mean a software stack you install next to your own weights. For a closed model, only the first is possible, which narrows what this partnership can be.

A generated card headed 'What a serving partner changes for agent workloads'. Four rows read 'Prefix caching' with 'the same system prompt and tool schema recur on every agent step', 'Paged attention' with 'a 1,000,000-token context no longer has to be contiguous', 'Continuous batching' with 'long reasoning traces share the hardware instead of queueing', and 'Speculative decoding' with 'several tokens proposed and verified per forward pass'. A footer reads 'Serving concepts per vLLM and Inferact; model limits per MiniMax.' The OrcaRouter logo sits bottom-right.

• Thinking is always on — MiniMax's API reference returns HTTP 400 for thinking: {"type": "disabled"} and rejects reasoning_effort: "none" the same way, so the only control is a five-rung ladder from low to max, and omitting the field means max

Put those together and you get a workload profile that rewards exactly the things vLLM is built for: paged attention so a million-token context does not have to be contiguous, prefix caching so agent steps do not re-prefill the same tool definitions, and continuous batching so a hundred half-finished reasoning traces share the hardware instead of queuing behind each other. MiniMax's own claim of 200+ tokens per second at peak and 170+ at median is a scheduling claim as much as a kernel claim. The 3× speed-up in the launch post is not something a better matrix multiply produces on its own.

A screenshot of Inferact's own website, showing the company describing itself as founded by vLLM's creators and maintainers, the line 'Production inference you control' and the two product shapes listed as running on your compute or on ours. A band of partner logos below includes a MiniMax logo alongside cloud and silicon vendors. No MiniMax-M3.1-Flash throughput figures appear on the page.

What does not exist, as of 22 October, is any figure at all for M3.1-Flash on Inferact's stack: no tokens per second, no time to first token, no cost per million, no concurrency curve. The announcement is a commitment without a measurement. That is normal two days in, and it is also the only reason to be interested — the value of the partnership to a buyer will be entirely determined by whether those numbers turn out to beat what MiniMax serves on its own, and right now nobody outside the two companies knows what MiniMax serves on its own.

A screenshot of MiniMax's own launch post, headed 'MiniMax M3.1 Flash: Redefining Agent Performance and Cost', opening with the claim that online inference is nearly three times faster and that usage costs fall by 70%, followed by a benchmark table comparing the model against five rival models across agentic, coding, computer-use and cybersecurity tasks. The post names no serving partner and no inference engine.

The second is the agent-workload framing. MiniMax did not describe the partnership as "faster inference." It described it as serving infrastructure for "complex agent workloads," which is a specific and harder problem than chat throughput: long-lived sessions, tool calls interleaved with generation, prefixes that must survive across steps, and cost that scales with trajectory length rather than with prompt count. A partner chosen for that problem is a partner chosen for the workload MiniMax is marketing the model against. Whether the choice was correct is not yet testable.

MiniMax-M3.1-Flash is not on the OrcaRouter catalogue. It is callable today through MiniMax's own API, its M Plan and MiniMax Code, and — per the 21 October announcement — through Inferact. That is the full list we can vouch for, and none of it is a router: each of those is one place to get the model, with its own rate limits, its own availability and no second option behind it if it goes down.

What is routable on our catalogue today is the rest of the MiniMax line — MiniMax-M3 among others — which is also the model to compare against on cost. MiniMax-M3.1-Flash's rate card is exactly half of MiniMax-M3's, $0.15 and $0.60 per million input and output tokens against $0.30 and $1.20, and Artificial Analysis puts the newer model at $0.22 per benchmark task against $0.51. For agentic traffic that gap is real. For a high-volume job of short classification calls, the older model with thinking switched off can still come out cheaper, because M3.1-Flash cannot switch thinking off at all.

The defensible summary is narrow. MiniMax naming Inferact an API launch partner is a statement about who will operate MiniMax-M3.1-Flash, made two days after the model shipped, by a company that did not see fit to put it in the launch post. It is evidence that the serving layer for this model is being actively rebuilt rather than inherited, which is what you would expect for a model whose entire pitch is throughput. It is not evidence about throughput. For that, wait for the first Inferact numbers on this model specifically — and in the meantime, run it somewhere with a fallback behind it, because a model with one endpoint and no downloadable weights is a model you cannot route around.
